I first heard Black Jack Davey on the flip side of some pop song in the late 50’s. Can’t remember which but I DO still have the record somewhere. I think it was on an early SUN label. Next exposure was the Planxty version of Raggle-Taggle Gypsies in the 80’s, but I didn’t tie the two until later. Black Jack Davy is a varrient of Raggle Taggle Gypsy, Gypsy Davie, Nine Yellow Gypsies, Whistling Gypsy, and a couple of - maybe hundreds of others.
